Reading Seminars
ACADEMIC SEMINARS:
The Department of Political Studies organizes periodic "Academic Seminars" devoted entirely to advanced reading of classic texts in the field of philosophy and political theory, as well as political science and international relations. The purpose of the "Academic Seminars" is to create the conditions for building an authentic scholarly community among Lazarski University faculty, graduate students and undergraduates while reading and discussing together. The form of the "Seminar" refers to the clustered academic model, which focuses its attention on reading and discussing source texts, rather than presenting presentations devoid of a common context that often do not refer to common interests. "Academic Seminars" are intended to strengthen the common intellectual foundation for Lazarski University faculty and should encourage the best current and former students to study "canonical" texts in depth.
Participants in "Academic Seminars" read the entire texts before the seminar begins (e.g., during the summer or winter break). One or two lecturers lead joint reading and discussion of the text during the 6 weekly meetings. They also prepare questions in advance and point out the most relevant passages to which the participants of "Academic Seminars" are to pay attention.
"Academic Seminars" are free for participants and are held in English.
Coordinator of "Academic Seminars": PhD Jan Grzymski, email contact: j .grzyms ki@lazarski.edu.pl
