It was opened by a magic feminine dance with fans performed by Vietnamese students, who astonished absolutely everyone. The Foreign Language Centre teacher and keen traveller Tomasz Pracki and our student Tomek Zińczuk, whose motorcycle journey around Vietnam turned out to be the voyage of life, shared their Vietnamese experiences with us. Students Thi Hong Thai and Thi Hieu, showing how one Vietnamese word pronounced with a different accent and intonation changes its meaning, convinced us that Vietnamese is a very difficult language.
Oanh Nguyen presented the most beautiful spots in Vietnam to us. Next, we admired graceful and elegant national women’s ao dai dresses in a show to the accompaniment of You in my eyes perfectly sung by our guest from Finland. Our English language teacher Jacek Korzeniowski gave an interesting presentation describing the influence of the Vietnam War on music, after which our talented student Tatiana Betsova sang a cult song from Hair musical and enchanted us all.
We also had an opportunity to get to know Vietnamese New Year’s customs. Of course, tasting Vietnamese specialities was an unquestionable attraction. We tried six dishes, drank lotus tea and Vietnamese coffee, and ate Vietnamese sweets. And all that took place in the corridor that was changed into a Saigon street.
The event was accompanied by spring rolls workshops and a photo exhibition.
In the participants’ opinions, Vietnam Day was a real success. It was possible thanks to the Vietnamese students’ involvement Ngoc H Nguyen and Trang Nguyen, thank you very much.
