When did you make the decision to work in this profession (chemist, medical analyst)?
It just turned out like this somehow. Finally, in the fifth year of my studies, I decided to go into science. I got a job offer (just before the defense of my master's thesis) at the Anti-Doping Research Department of the Sport Institute in Warsaw. I started working and then everything just went on...
Do you enjoy teaching at the university?
It has always been joy for me. Teaching gives me good energy that I can share with others.
What is the most difficult when working with students?
Honestly, I don't see anything difficult about it. I would definitely call it a challenge, a constant challenge and meeting new interesting people.
Why did you decide to become a lecturer in toxicology?
It is related to my interests and the work that started at the Anti-Doping Research Department. In addition, I managed to complete postgraduate studies in Evidence Law, Forensics and Related Sciences at the Center for Forensic Sciences of the University of Warsaw, which further deepened my passion for toxicology and forensics.
What do you value most about your students?
First of all, honesty, creativity and carelessness. Youth has its own rights. Students have enthusiasm and a lot of passion in their approach to learning and life.
What are your interests besides research work?
There are several of them. First of all, I love cooking and, apparently, I do it very well (as my son says). I also like sports (horse riding, jogging).
What is your favorite movie / series / book that you would recommend to students for long winter evenings?
Star Wars, of course :) When it comes to series, I would recommend ‘Friends’, and in particular Polish series ‘Glina’ with music by Michał Lorenz.
What is your greatest advantage and disadvantage?
Creative and sometimes distracted.
In relation to the current situation, how do you assess 2020? What are your wishes for the new year?
Referring to the times of the "plague", I think we will eventually remember it positively and perhaps with nostalgia. The world looks different now, and our approach to online life has changed for 180 degrees. My wishes for the New Year 2021 are for people to be free and have the right to freedom and to decide about their lives on their own.
Do you have any motto in your life?
Rather not, I believe that dreams do come true, especially when we fight for them;) You should never give up.
Thank you for the conversation.

"Ultimately, 2020 we will remember positively" - interview with dr Damian Gorczyca
Hello there! I present to you dr Damian Gorczyca, my lecturer in toxicology at the Medical Faculty. Although, I had classes with this lecturer a year ago, I still have fond memories of learning his subject. Due to the lecturer’s charisma and approach to students, I easily assimilated new knowledge. Also, friendly atmosphere in the classroom made my time run away too quickly. I must admit that while looking at the schedule of classes for the third year, I was waiting for these classes the most.
